It all started in a Walmart. And with a pack of cigarettes, naturally. We were teenagers working as cashiers, and before we knew it, we were head over in heels in lust, then love. And that was 18 years ago. While navigating the deep-red Bible Belt as a same-sex couple was a challenge in itself, nothing compares to the chaos of moving abroad with senior pets to an unseen location – twice. But we’ve done it, and not only did we survive, but we’ve ended up thriving, and now, we get to share it on our very own travel blog.

The Story Behind Two Sapphic Hags Travel Blog
Our original big move was to the Greater London area in 2023, and even before the moving boxes were folded, the concept of a sapphic travel blog was running through my brain. When I brought it up to Britt, she was instantly on board, and we began workshopping some names, landing on a combination that perfectly described us while giving a nod to our family back in Missouri.
The choice of “sapphic” was obvious – I mean, two lady-loving lesbians – and there are two of us. “Hag” was a bit out of left field, but we’re both witchy, woo-woo ladies who love reading our horoscopes, learning about tarot, collecting crystals, and gardening for food, medicine, and general foliage aesthetic. We’d both consider ourselves green witches, even without the space for our Missouri-sized garden/farm.

Throughout history, the term “hag” has also been a favorite way to describe any woman who exists outside the patriarchal restraints of normal, especially if they exhibit any sense of independence or critical thinking skills. Check, check, and check. And, oddly enough, it’s a weird term of endearment in my family. Sometimes it also morphs into “bag”. No follow-up questions, please. * laughs *
So, when the full combination of Two Sapphic Hags came up in conversation, it felt like a perfect match for our travel blog. Ya know, something old, something new, something borrowed… and something incredibly lesbian.

Why We Created Two Sapphic Hags
After landing on the name, we began dreaming about our new life abroad and all the new trips we could take with the notoriously affordable European transit. We started envisioning a website and travel blog where we could share our story with the hopes of helping others moving abroad navigate the process easier than it was for us, especially those in the LGBTQ+ community or anyone moving with pets – we did it with five, originally.
The reality is that there are lots of tips and guides online about moving to the UK and Europe, but after having done it, it’s obvious that much of this information comes from people that haven’t actually ever experienced it. One major focus of Hags is filling in the gaps by sharing our own journeys.

We also both love to travel. While we were mostly limited for years because of financial constraints, we instead opted for daydreams of where we’d go when we got older and more secure. Now, we’re in a position where we can finally explore all the places we’ve talked about. European affordability with air and train travel also makes it much more feasible to reach more destinations than we ever could in the U.S.
With these two passions in mind, our vision for Two Sapphic Hags is an (unequal) mix of move abroad and sapphic travel posts that are actually helpful, not regurgitated AI content. Aesthetically, our posts are wrapped up in a scrapbook style that mixes our travel photography with graphic design – again, we do it ourselves, not AI. These elements all come together to create an authentic online wanderlust experience; a safe little corner of the internet for the sapphic explorers; a place for a community to grow.
(Before anyone comes at me with but you use em dashes! Duh, I’ve been a professional writer for a decade. I do now add unnecessary spaces before and after the – em dash – as a way to distinguish it, but honestly, AI could never have this much attitude.)

What to Expect On Our Lesbian Travel Blog
Aside from an incredible sense of humor and aesthetic sense, Hags has two main focuses (as mentioned above): moving abroad and sapphic travel. The former is a smaller percentage of the website but will include in-depth articles chronicling our international relocation to the U.K. and Ireland. A comprehensive, large guide for each location will be accompanied by smaller articles that can go into even more detail about specific aspects of moving abroad.
The bulk of Hags is primarily dedicated to sapphic travel, including city and country guides that break down all the important tid-bits that other queer travelers need to know, like how to traverse public transport in Iceland. As with moving abroad topics, these large travel blogs will have smaller supporting articles that offer additional information based on the subject at hand.
Additionally, each location gets its own digital travel journal. This part is a true passion project, serving entirely as an aesthetic post that scratches my ongoing itch to scrapbook these amazing cities and countries that we visit. If you like visual travel art or collages, then these posts are for you.

Join the Hags: Hope to See You Soon
The overarching goal of Hags is community. We want to build our own little internet oasis of like-minded people that love to travel, love their furry-floof family members, and love to approach new adventures with an open mind, open heart, and likely too many opinions. So, let’s connect? We’d love to get to know you.
