Sapphic Travel Tips FAQs

Your most common questions about sapphic travel, answered.

Iceland! We both love the country, and make it a point to visit as much as possible. The people are kind and welcoming, plus it’s also incredibly safe from the perspective of both women and queer people.

It’s always important to research a location as much as possible to ensure it’s safety as a queer couple planning to visit. One of the most important factors is the legality of our relationship. If an issue arises, like an illness or injury, it’s essential that we’re able to legally operate as the other’s spouse. Additionally, we also read up on the experience of other same-sex couples that have visited the area to determine if what’s on paper is reflected in reality.

Regardless of where we travel, we take precautions to help increase our safety. For instance, when booking a hotel, we always book it for more than one person, even if we’re on a solo trip. Once we’re there, we use a lock rig to prevent unapproved entry while we’re inside. We also make sure to share our locations with family and close friends so that they can keep track of us in case something happens.

Our to-travel list is long, but we’ve already managed to visit quite a few places that we felt safe as a queer couple. Reykjavik and Copenhagen are two places that have felt incredibly safe. However, it’s always important to be aware of changing laws and cultural shifts as the queer-friendliness of a location can change quickly.
