Two Sapphic Hags FAQs

Welcome to Two Sapphic Hags! If you’ve landed on our website, you probably have a question or two about moving abroad as a queer person, moving with pets, and/or traveling a lesbian or member of the LGBTQ+ community. Well, you’re in the right place! Here are a few of the most frequently ask questions we get:

Our first move was to the U.K. in 2023. We stayed for a year before moving to Dublin, Ireland, followed by a final move back to the U.K. in 2025. London has our hearts!

It’s not cheap! For our first move — and likely the most costly — from the U.S. to the U.K., an employer covered some of the largest expenses, including international movers and packers, visa application and expedition, and temporary accommodation for the first month in the U.K. However, we still had airfare, pet health certificates, and various other odds and ends. It easily costs $20k+ with $40k+ being a far more realistic number.

We left the U.S. with five senior pets — two chihuahua mixes and three rescue cats. To get them into the U.K., we flew into Paris with them in-cabin, then hired a pet transportation company to drive us all to London. This process is complicated with a lot of moving parts and stressors, so we’ll break it down in a guide soon to cover the details.

There are a few different ways to move and reside in a new country overseas. For the U.K., we went the employment route as Britt was able to obtain a skilled worker visa. Since we’re married, Tiff was able to access a dependent visa that still allowed her to work as well.
